AI Overload: The downside of overusing AI generated content on Social Media for your business
AI Overload: The downside of overusing AI generated content on Social Media for your business

Have you noticed a lot of business content is starting to sound and look the same? Whether it’s phrases like “top-notch service”, emoji-formatted lists (Please make the 🔥🚀❗️ bullet points stop!!!), or those awkward AI-generated posts crowding your social media feeds (you know, the one with that plumbing "illustration" that looked a little…off?) - it’s becoming embarrassingly clear: small businesses are starting to lose attention, trust, and engagement from potential clients.

With the rise and convenience of AI-assisted content, everyone from national brands to your local contractor can save time and money using tools like ChatGPT... but here’s the problem: When you rely on the same tools without a strategy or personality, your brand starts to sound and look like everyone else’s... And that’s a real issue when you're trying to stand out in a saturated market.

AI Is A Tool, Not a Voice

Let me be clear—I am definitely not anti-AI. I 100% use it. You should too—for certain things. It’s fast, efficient, and a great support tool. But when AI replaces the "human" in your messaging, you lose your tone, your personality—and your edge.

And here’s a hard truth you need to hear:

Search engines have already started recognizing overused, generic AI content and are rewarding brands that publish authentic, engaging, and original content. Translation? That copy-pasted AI blog and IG post isn’t helping your SEO anymore.

Your voice—the way you talk to your customers, the impression you leave after a genuine interaction or well completed service, your family, your journey, and the heart behind what you do—is the one thing AI can’t replicate. And that’s exactly what your audience connects with.

So… Where Can We Use AI Effectively?

Personally, I sometimes have so many ideas and tasks to complete in a day, it becomes difficult to organize and prioritize them.

I am also guilty of losing track of time when I get into design projects (it’s my happy place), so I use ChatGPT to help me outline, prioritize and organize my priorities and daily tasks to tackle to-do lists.

Chat GPT is also a fantastic tool for brainstorming new marketing campaigns and business ideas. With the right prompt, you can get structure, strategy, and clarity—without sacrificing your voice. In my experience and opinion, that’s the key.

Here Are 2 Of my Go-To Brainstorming Prompts for ChatGPT:

  1. "I want to brainstorm unique YouTube content that highlights my professional experience with [insert your specialty]. Please start this process by asking me 5 questions, one at a time, that will spark creative ideas for this topic.”

  1. "Lets source top ranking local service ads to help me develop a local Google ad campaign based on this common customer issue: [insert problem]. Give me 3 creative angles to address it that differ from repetitive ad content, and include interesting visuals that I can easily take with my phone camera."

These prompts activate your critical thinking, not just your copy-paste reflex. The more you show up in the process, the better your content will be—and the stronger your connection with your audience will grow.

Ways to Keep Your Content Authentic When Using AI:

1. Write like you talk

Don’t be afraid to be casual, direct, or funny if that’s who you are.

2. Tell Your Own Story

Use real experiences, connections in your community, and your own photos to highlight client wins.

3. Use Creative & Detailed Prompting

Get Specific with your prompt and encourage a more customized response through a series of questions and prompts that direct a unique and personalized outcome.

4. Use AI for structure—not soul.

Let it help you organize, brainstorm, and streamline, and most importantly, activate that brilliant mind that got you as far as you have come. Don't forget to ensure everything you put put into the digital world reflects the personality and values of your brand.

Trust me, I get it—you’re busy running a business. And while AI can absolutely save you time, it should never cost you your brand. If you need some human guidance or a hand in the Marketing department while maintaining your brand's unique, send me a message

(And please, for the sake of humanity, stop using "TOP-NOTCH" and formatting main topic points with emojis).
